Conservative group praises Alito in TV ad
Amazing how, less than 24 hours after the nomination was announced, that the ad was produced and distributed. Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say that this was all planned in advance.

Conservative group praises Alito in TV ad
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Details of a television ad beginning Tuesday by the conservative interest group Progress for America Inc., calling for the confirmation of President Bush's Supreme Court nominee, Samuel Alito:
TITLE: "Alito"
LENGTH: 30 seconds
AIRING: Nationally on CNN and Fox News Channel
SCRIPT: Announcer: "One of America's most respected judges, Samuel Alito, nominated for the Supreme Court. Alito served presidents of both parties, and argued more than a dozen Supreme Court cases. As a tough, highly praised U.S. attorney, Alito prosecuted terrorists and corporate criminals. He won the ABA's highest rating and the Senate unanimously confirmed him to be a federal judge. Now President Bush has nominated Judge Alito for the Supreme Court. Urge the Senate to give Samuel Alito a fair up or down vote."
KEY IMAGES: Picture of Samuel Alito superimposed in front of a close-up of the Supreme Court building's columns, a picture of the White House, a second picture of the Supreme Court with Alito superimposed in front, a young U.S. Attorney Alito followed by a picture of a man being led away in handcuffs, a picture of an empty Senate chamber, and an image of Bush and Alito at the Supreme Court announcement.
ANALYSIS: Progress for America, Inc., which last year said it would spend $18 million to push President Bush's nominees, launched this ad Tuesday in support of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. The group did the same for now-Chief Justice John Roberts and failed Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers after their nominations were announced. The ad, running nationally on CNN and Fox, cost the group $425,000 to run for one week.
The ad's aim is to dampen support among Democrats for filibustering Alito by pointing out that he has worked for Democratic as well Republican presidents, he got a "well qualified" rating from the American Bar Association, and he got his judgeship without any objections from the then-Democrat-controlled Senate.
It also works to garner support among Republicans for his nomination by pointing out his qualifications as an appellate lawyer - something Miers lacked - and a law-and-order prosecutor who went after terrorists and corporate criminals.
